From room measurements to a plan you can follow
PlankBuddy focuses on the work between measuring and installing: rows, end joints, the length of every plank, cuts, offcuts, and warnings when the rules you set do not fit together.
What the tool calculates
You enter the room shape, measurements, plank size and install rules. From these, the planner creates a layout plan. The same calculation drives the room plan, the cut list and the exports, so every measurement can be traced back to a single plank. Enter the number of planks per box and the plan also shows how many boxes to buy, counted from the planks the plan uses, with no waste factor added.
Which rooms and floors it covers
The planner handles rectangular and L-shaped rooms, as well as complex floor areas made of several rectangles. You can mark areas where no planks go. Vinyl plank (LVP and SPC), laminate and click engineered hardwood are planned in straight rows, using your own values for the expansion gap, end pieces and stagger. Each plan uses one plank length, so boxes of random-length planks are not planned exactly.
What PlankBuddy does not promise
The tool does not replace the installation instructions, checking measurements on site, or professional judgment. Walls can be out of square, a subfloor may need preparation, and requirements differ from product to product. The plan is a working guide, not a guarantee.
Feet, inches and square feet
Room sizes are in feet and inches, plank sizes and rules in inches, and areas in square feet, as on US flooring boxes. Type 12' 6", 12 6 or 12.5 for a room side; a plain number is feet. Plank sizes take fractions or decimals: 7 1/8, 7.1 or 48". Cut lengths are rounded down to the nearest 1/16", so a cut is never longer than the space it fills.
