Reviews
Reviews are published with your consent. We store your rating, review, display name, optional details about how you used the tool, language, whether the form was opened on the home page or in the planner, the time and the consent version with Supabase. We do not store an email address with the review. The review is also sent to us through Resend so we can check it. A hash of your IP address is used to prevent abuse and is deleted within two days. Pending or rejected reviews are deleted within 90 days. Published reviews are kept until you withdraw your consent or the feature ends. Withdrawn reviews are hidden as soon as the request is handled and deleted within 30 days. The review text and name are not sent to usage analytics. Usage analytics follows the site's privacy settings and records when the reminder is shown, when you choose a rating, where the form is opened and whether sending succeeds. The rating itself is not sent to usage analytics.
We store your choice about review reminders in your browser. Not now hides the reminder for 30 days. If you open the review form from the reminder or send a review, we stop reminding you in that browser. The choice contains no name or review and is reset if you clear the site's stored data.

Project data stays in your browser
The room shape, measurements, flooring choices and the current planner step are stored locally in your browser so you can carry on after reloading the page. The saved project file and exports are not sent to usage analytics. A session recording can, however, show the plan, measurements and messages that are visible on screen while you use the planner. You can delete the local data by resetting the plan or by clearing your browser's stored site data.
When you open a country’s pages on plankbuddy.com, the first-party cookie pb_market remembers that country for one year. It holds only the country code, such as nz, so the home page can take you straight to your country next time. It is not used for analytics. To change country, open another country’s pages or clear your browser’s stored site data.
Anonymous visit statistics and performance
PlankBuddy uses Vercel Web Analytics for visits and page views, and Vercel Speed Insights for page performance. The statistics can include the page visited, where the visit came from, an approximate region, and the device and browser type. No analytics cookies or persistent analytics identifiers are used for this. A temporary value is created from the request and deleted within 24 hours, so PlankBuddy cannot follow an individual visitor from one day to the next. Before performance data is sent, PlankBuddy removes query parameters and links to parts of the page. Room measurements, contact details and free text are not included, and visit and performance statistics are not used for targeted marketing or for decisions about individual visitors. If an operator deliberately turns on internal test mode with ?intern=1, a technical first-party cookie is set so test visits are left out of the statistics. This cookie is not used for visitor analytics and is not sent to PostHog.
Usage analytics
We analyse how the website and planner are used so we can understand and improve the product. Usage analytics includes persistent, pseudonymous identifiers to link return visits, as well as the page path, language, time zone, referring page, campaign information and details of the planner's inputs and results, for example room and board sizes, rules, number of rows and waste.
PostHog can also record the page structure, clicks, scrolling and the content visible while you use the site. All input fields are masked before anything is sent. Names, email addresses and free text are masked as well. Query parameters, URL fragments, the content and headers of network requests, console logs and canvas content are not recorded. The data is not used for marketing. Internal test visits, and visits with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control turned on, are not recorded.
Technical error diagnostics
If the planner cannot calculate a laying plan, a separate technical error report can be sent. The report contains the error code and the measurements and rule values needed to reproduce it, for example the room, excluded-area and board sizes.
The report contains no name, email address, free text, web address, referring page or persistent identifier. Each report gets a new one-off identifier. That same one-off identifier links the report to the usage event for that calculation attempt, and also appears in the calculation request and response, in the server log, and in usage events about the error, how it was shown, recovery actions and the next calculation attempt. The report itself contains no browser, project or session identifier. Your IP address is used only briefly on the server to prevent abuse and is not passed to PostHog. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are respected.
Contact form and feedback
When you contact us, we process your name, email address, topic and message so we can read and answer your request. For feedback, we store your rating, category, optional comment and email address so we can handle the feedback and follow up if needed. Please do not send sensitive information that your request does not need.
Voluntary support
If you choose to support further development, a Stripe payment page opens. Stripe processes the payment and contact details on its own site. PlankBuddy does not receive full card details. You can read more in Stripe's privacy policy.
Why data is processed
Visit and performance data help us understand how the website is used and how stable it is, with as little data as possible. Usage analytics helps us understand and improve the product and how it is used; the data is not used for marketing. Technical error diagnostics are used only to reproduce and fix calculation errors. The basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, reliable service with as little data as possible. Contact and feedback data are processed to answer requests and improve the service.
Recipients, retention and deletion
Data is shared only with service providers needed for hosting, storage, email, analytics or payment, and only for that purpose. Aggregated visit data, usage data, session recordings and technical error reports are kept for up to 12 months, and performance data for up to 30 days. Contact requests and feedback are kept for up to 12 months after the matter is closed, unless a longer legal obligation applies. Local project data stays on your device until you reset the plan or clear your browser data. PostHog usage analytics and session recording use a persistent, pseudonymous identifier to link return visits. Technical error diagnostics create no persistent identifier and no local storage. A technical first-party marker is stored only when internal test mode is deliberately turned on, and is used only to leave out our own test visits.
International data transfers
Your data is processed outside New Zealand. Supabase and PostHog process data in the EU. Emails are sent from Resend's EU region, but Resend stores account and email metadata in the US. Vercel may process technical data in the US. We use the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and other appropriate safeguards with these providers. Contact us if you would like to know more.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, and for it to be corrected or deleted. You can also ask us to restrict processing and, where the conditions are met, to give you your data in a portable form. You can object to processing that is based on legitimate interests.
For privacy questions, use the contact form. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
